Orava dam is one of the most popular dams in Slovakia. Popular recreational activities include boating, surfing, yachting and water biking.
The Orava Dam is the result of an artificial blockage of the Orava River in northern Slovakia, which was necessary to prevent frequent flooding in the area.
In the middle of the reservoir there is a very popular destination for tourists – Slanický island. The Roman Catholic Church, which was built here, was built in 1766 – 1769 and has a permanent exhibition of folk art with an outdoor exhibition of stone works of art.
