SPA in Slovakia are among the oldest and best quality in Central Europe. Probably the most famous spa resort in our country are Piešťany, which is famous not only for its unique thermal mineral waters, but also for its therapeutic sulfuric mud.

It is interesting that if all the mineral water in Slovakia were filled with bottles, we would be able to supply the whole of Europe. It is a Slovak underground treasure, which has a huge use in some spa.

The world famous spa town Piešťany is located at the foot of the mountains Považský Inovec. Mud and thermal mineral water in Piešťany have significant therapeutic effects on musculoskeletal disorders and are unique not only in Europe but worldwide. It is the largest and most successful spa in Slovakia specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases.

Hot mineral springs (67 ° -69 ° C) containing 1500 mg of minerals per liter and sulfuric healing mud stimulated the development of the spa and the construction of treatment facilities. Turčianske Teplice is located in the center of Turca. Legend has it that King Sigismund of Luxembourg bathed in local springs in 1423.

The spa is able to treat musculoskeletal, urological and gynecological diseases, including skin diseases. Local healing water is based on seven springs with a yield of up to 30 l / s at temperatures between 38 and 47.5 degrees Celsius.

Its park and protected area is 2 km long and stretches to Dolní Štubno.

SPA Vyšné Ružbachy

Vyšné Ružbachy is located in eastern Slovakia. The healing effects of earthy carbonate mineral springs were well known in the Middle Ages. The curative and preventive effects of the spa are based on local natural waters with low mineralization and temperatures up to 26 ° C.

Vyšné Ružbachy offers mineral pools with mineral water, tub baths, sauna, gym and massage rooms. One of the main attractions of Vyšné Ružbachy is the local travertine quarry.

SPA Sliač is located between the towns of Banska Bystrica and Zvolen. Therapeutic activities began here in 1657.

Since 1960, they were the only ones in Slovakia that treated cardiovascular diseases. The waters in the Sliac Spa are unique because of their high CO2 content (more than 98%) and an isothermal temperature of 33.2 ° C.

Sliac Spa is also the only one in Slovakia that uses natural gas. Gas is extracted directly from the spa spring. All other spas in Slovakia use chemically produced gas.

SPA Lúčky

Lúčky Spa lies on the border of the Liptov and Orava regions and is one of the oldest in Slovakia. They are popular for the complex treatment of gynecological diseases, as the only spa in our country focused on the treatment of female diseases.

The locals have known mineral springs since 1761. The decisive element is the earthy carbonic mineral water of the spa spring with a water temperature of 32 ° C, which contains natural carbon dioxide.

Baths, peat wraps, steam baths and other procedures related to local medicinal waters are often used in conjunction with massage, physical or rehabilitation exercises.

SPA Sklené Teplice

Spa Sklené Teplice is located 12 km from Banska Stiavnica. The rarity of Sklenice Teplice is the thermal springs of mineral waters, with temperatures of 38-52.3 ° C, which not only have significant healing effects, but also radiate the spirit of the old famous history of the spa.

Thermal water contains large amounts of magnesium and calcium and is predestined for the treatment of locomotive organs, nerve disorders and post-traumatic conditions.

A unique product of nature is the so-called Parenica – thermal bath, which allows visitors to bathe in a cave at a 42 ° C warm healing spring. Water in Sklenníky is hypotonic, with moisturizing effects.

SPA Smrdáky

Smrdaky Spa is located next to the town of Senica and is known for its sulfuric healing springs. Due to the composition of the local healing water and excellent treatment results, the spa focused on the treatment of skin diseases as early as the 20th century.

The healing water composition of Smrdaky is truly unique. One liter of local water contains more than 3,100 mg of mineral elements. The hydrogen sulphide content is particularly high (more than 600 mg / l), making Smrdak water one of the most sulphurous waters in Europe. Sulfurous mud is also highly curative.


Not far from the border with Hungary lies Ciz, which is perhaps the most famous area in the southern Gemer.

In the past it was a small agricultural village, but the discovery of mineral springs changed its character. In 1889 there were open-air baths of national importance, intended for patients affected by diseases of nerves, skin and other chronic inflammatory diseases.

Kováčová SPA

Northwest of the town of Zvolen we find the spa Kováčová, which specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal and nervous system diseases. The basis of treatment is mineralized water with an increased fluorine content, at a temperature of 48.5 ° C.

SPA Lučivná

Lučivná Climate Spa is located in the area below the Tatras. The facility specializes in providing spa treatment to children suffering from non-tuberculous respiratory diseases.

In 1875, the spa area was classified as a treatment facility, and in 1937 it was expanded to include a modern treatment center, which includes several separate buildings, and a children’s treatment facility was opened in 1948.

SPA Nimnica

The youngest Slovak SPA Nimnica is situated between Považská Bystrica and Púchov. During the construction of the water reservoir in 1952, the spring Nimnica was discovered, which prompted the establishment and development of local spas. After hydrogeological investigation and verification of the therapeutic effects of water, local salt water began to be fully utilized.

In Nimnica, diseases of the digestive system, circulatory system and diseases of the respiratory tract and musculoskeletal system are treated. Mineral water contains trace elements such as potassium, magnesium, chlorine, iodine, sodium, iron, calcium and free carbon dioxide and is also used to treat cancer and gynecological diseases. Therapy is based on drinking this water, inhalation and a carbon dioxide bath.

Štós SPA

Štós Climate Spa is located in the southeastern part of Slovakia. According to the Swiss classification, the drug spa has a climate rated as level 1, which contains typical features of the mountain landscape.

They focus on the treatment of respiratory diseases. It is not only due to its suitable altitude, 650 meters above sea level and the high number of sunny days, but also thanks to the forest park (known as the Slovak National Cultural Monument) with more than 200 species of trees and flowers, complemented by streams with cascades and fountain. The effect of spa climate therapy is multiplied by speleotherapy – a unique treatment method that is carried out in the nearby Jasovská Cave.

The spa has gained extensive experience in this therapeutic method and has achieved very positive results. In the former Czechoslovakia, Štós Spa was the first to start using the classic Finnish sauna and use it for therapeutic purposes. The sauna still serves its purpose.

The facility was opened in response to new trends in the spa industry in the 19th century, when climate therapy was supported along with hot water or healing mud.
