M. R. Štefánik

The remains of M. R. Štefánik were placed here on 11 May 1919. The magnificent Cairn of Milan Rastislav Štefánik is made of white travertine from Spiš and was built in 1928. It was designed by Dušan Jurkovič and consecrated on 23 September.

Every year in May there are held events celebrating the life and work of Stefanik. The Barrow Cairn consists of two terraces with a tomb standing over them. Both terraces have sloping walls built of rectangular bricks. From each corner of the mound, two large stone obelisks grow to a height of 12 m.
