Water mills in Kvačianska valley

Experts classified water mills in Kvačianska valley as mills of mountain type. It is one of the last preserved monuments of its kind in its natural environment.

The water mills stand at the top of the Kvačianska Valley. Both mills are from the first half of the 19th century, when they stood next to an important road linking the regions of Liptov and Orava with Poland.

Upper mill

In 1936, one of the mills was adapted to the sawmill, later its owners abandoned it. The upper mill consists of three parts, and stands on a stone masonry. It works with a wheel powered by water, the mill belonged to the village Sviniarky.

Lower mill

By contrast, the village of Veľké Borové owned a lower mill. The mill had two wheels and one of them drives the saw. It has been thoroughly renovated.

The water mills in Kvacianska dolina are on a nature trail between Prosiecka and Kvacianska dolina.
