Vinianske Castle and Vršatec Castle

Vinianske Castle

Vinianske Castle is located northwest of the village of Vinné. This fortified seat of the nobility of Michalovce dates back to the second half of the 13th century and, like other castles in the region, served as a guard castle, an old trade route to Poland. Castle offers a nice view of the Eastern Lowland.

Vršatec Castle

The remains of the royal guard castle Vršatec are at the top of the rock. Legend has it that the castellan of this castle cut off his leg in order to help his master escape from the Tatar prison. The ruins provide an excellent view of the Central Povazie and the Vah valley along with the Súľov and Strážovské hills. The nature trail leads to the ruins, as well as various cycling and hiking trails.

Vršatec Castle
