Mushroom rock in Markušovce

Protected object

Protected object mushroom rock in Markušovce is located above the riverbed Hornád, about 5 km east of the village Markušovce. It is one of the most beautiful and well-known mushroom-like rock formations in Slovakia (and reportedly the largest in Europe).

It is an 8 m high rock formation reminiscent of the mushroom silhouette, caused by uneven rock weathering.

Interestingly, while the foot is made of cardboard, the hat consists of sandstone. Mushroom rock in Markušovce is part of the natural monument Markusov Wall.

There is a hiking trail from Markušovce and Matejovce nad Hornádom.
