Zemplínska Šírava

Compared to other Slovak dams located in northern areas, Zemplínska Šírava lies in a relatively warm East Slovak region. Zemplínska Šírava is located in the East Slovak Lowland and attracts visitors mainly in summer.

Recreation centers

Zemplínska Šírava is a very popular destination for fans of water sports. Along the dam there are seven holiday resorts that offer high quality services, accommodation and meals are provided in hotels, bungalows and guest houses. Camping lovers can use their tents or try camping. Popular tourist centers include Hôrka, Kaluža, Paľkov and Kamenec.

Boat rentals, water bikes, scooters, skis and windsurfing are available at every corner. Fishing is also one of the area’s attractions.

Ornithological reserve

The eastern and shallower parts of the dam are a protected ornithological reserve. Almost 100 species of aquatic birds, including some very rare ones, have been identified.
